How big of a stick burner? When I used an Old Country Pecos I’d buy the B&B wood from Tom Thumb. If I borrowed my buddies trailer pit I’d go over to Arnold Bros in Irving.

Im thinking something the size of a pecos, no bigger, but would prefer to buy in bulk to save money. thinking maybe 1/4 cord?

I will check out Arnold Bros. thanks.

question- I have been SERIOUSLY looking at the pecos. what had you get rid of it? what all did you like/dislike about it.

THANKS

Just responded to your PM and then noticed this

Figured I'd paste part of my response here in case any of the other members are looking at the Pecos as well:

I used a Pecos for several years. From what I looked at before purchasing and after I was using it I would rate it as one of the top big box store stick burners I found.

Modifications - I drilled holes and put temp gauges at grate level for a more accurate temp reading. Also, used a water pan most of the time to maintain moisture in the cook chamber.

Pros - Price and construction. It's pretty heavy duty. Just go look at one, lift the lid, knock on it and then do the same to a char broiler or any of the Home Depot or Lowes offerings and you'll see the difference.

Con's - Tended to cook much hotter at FB end initially. Calmed down some as the coal base built up. I found myself fiddling with the fire about every 30 minutes or so. That is to be expected unless you jump up to a custom with an insulate FB.

All in all I would recommend the Pecos for a pit under $500.00. I turned out some really nice BBQ on it.

+1 on Lindsey's

Also, Academy commonly sells all types of cook wood in bagged splits or chunks. Makes it so easy I have switched over to this yes they are a reliable supplier, and the wood yards are sometimes out of Hickory, pecan or both

For oak I use this man exclusively. He is an older 60-70 yr old black man that drives up to Arlington to sell his wood all they way from Athens, and his wife helps him unload and stack. They have supported their entire family all their lives by selling wood. His poor hands are so gnarled and scarred from his labors. I can't in good conscience buy from anyone else as long as he is still able. You tell him you want seasoned, that is what you get. I buy for my fireplace, and for my grill. Just tell him the length you want and he will do it. Delivering to Dallas would be a breeze for him compared to coming to Arlington.

Kicking this back up to the top. I bought this for $80 from a guy in Bedford yesterday, it is supposed to be a 1/4 cord and fully seasoned. It is a little bit of fruit wood, post oak and pecan. Does this look like a 1/4 cord and does it look seasoned to y'all? I know its hard to tell by the pics, but this is my first time buying splits in volume amd have no idea what I'm looking at/for lol? Any help yall can provide is appreciatedImageImage

It is without a doubt seasoned wood.
A cord of wood is 4'High by 4' wide by 8' long

Thanks for the input Rambo, by those measurements it seems about right for a 1/4 cord, hopefully it burns well
