Czeching in and SSSSSSSSSSS! It's that time of year

Postby Boots » Sat Jul 01, 2017 1:25 pm

Got us a little visitor in the backyard this morning. I thumped him over the head with a large stick. Problem is, I found I a much larger skin nearby that had molted off with in the last two or three days. Guess I need to import a goose or a hog.

Oh, and I tried my hand at making klobasniky this morning for something different. Biscuit dough, Pedersons sausage, and I chunk of cheddar cheese. Definitely edible, but the ladies down at the Knights of Columbus hall in Czech country have nothing to fear from me - yet.

Is it permissible to use Yum and Yikes in the same sentence :?: I HATE ALL SNAKES and a friend of mine says there is only one kind of snake in East Texas a "Rattleheadedcoppermocassion". Now to the YUM part - - - I'd sure be willing to sample one or so? of them Czechie thingies - - - looks a lot like a Kolache don't it?

Yep and I didn't know the difference in the names until I saw it in the Village Bakery in West and then I was talking to some Texas Czech friends of mine who tell me the sausage ones are really not considered kolaches.

My best friend in College, Robt. Kutach's Mom, Tiny, made the best I've ever eaten.
Kinda makes you wonder how these Asian Donut Shops can legally call those "whatevers"? Kolaches :dont:

I've known a few people (that's too many) that have been bitten by those Kings of Kamoflage and everyone told me that is the sickest that they have ever been. I've come close many many times but so far so good - - I'm sure that Boots has as well. Down here on the Gulf Coast when we have high waters from Hurricanes - - - the snakes seeking higher ground is a huge problem, especially if your home is on the high ground "duh" :dont:

Yep, we just had a big rain which I'm sure is part of what drove him up out of the creek. Creepy thing is I did not see him on the walk out to the shop; just before I would've stepped on him I got distracted by a big stick over to the side and thought "I need a big stick in case I see a snake so I can whack him". So I diverted course. Sure enough on the way back from the shop, big honking stick in hand, I see our friend in the middle of the lane. Bang bang, no more snake. I do hate spiders worse, particularly at night, but it's definitely war on copperheads around here since they bit Mollie the wonder dog twice in two successive years when we first moved here. I will be making them pay for a long time to come.

We are lucky, no snakes here, except the car sales type, lol. I've never heard of this type of biscuit? Cake? Is it a scone type mixture? And any info would be good.

Cheers

I did mine using biscuit though, which is for our purposes, simply a mixture of flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and crumbled butter, and milk. BUT The real thing is made with the sweetbread similar to a dinner roll or a crossaint: light fluffy airy, sort of like a sausage embedded in a little sweet bread pillow. It's one of the best things on earth. If you Google sausage Kolache or klobasne or klobasniky you will see pictures of the little things

I guess now's not the time to mention I used to keep snakes as pets.

I have high lighted what "I" consider the most important words of that st-st-st-st-statement. :whiteflag:

Relax. They weren't venomous.

Big, though. Garter snakes, which were in plenty when we first moved here. I would study them awhile, then set them free.

Back in college, for a class in Circus, I got assigned the sideshow. Someone gave me a six foot blacksnake. After the show, and before I could give him back, he got loose in my apartment and hid in a closet full of wooden gears. The guy who witnessed this and was supposed to 'help' (NOT, I repeat, NOT PB) stood on a chair squealing like a little girl while I caught the snake by the tail and stuffed him back in his cage.
