Daughter's 4th and MIL's ___th B-days this weekend, so we've got celebrations on Saturday and Sunday.

Sick as a dog, so my plans are to relax this weekend and get better before Monday. Might grill some chops, was gonna cook them last night but just couldn't do it. They have been marinating in Stubb's Pork Marinade since yesterday afternoon, should be delicious!!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!!

Finished last weekend chore of researching the new TV and bought a plasma...(an el cheapo..which will hopefully last us at least 3 years)
And today we're going to some "save the dogs" lunch to help the local RSCPA etc.
Cooked some smoked salmon last night...should be nice with eggs this morning...

Not a real good weekend here. Thursday a very close friend of ours had a fatal heart attack while balin hay.He was only 49 yrs old. My oldest(16) is takin it really hard. Kenny(the friend) was his fishing buddy and confidant. Today is kind of a melancholy day just sittin around not doing much except Qing. Tomorrow is the funeral. It's going to be a huge one. DS is torn about going. This is the bad part of my son having grown folks for good friends.

Tami,
I'm so sorry you all are dealing with such a tragedy! Please tell your son that he will be glad he goes and celebrates his friends life! Funerals don't have to be for sadness and tears. When my Dad died in the line of duty, over 1000 people attended his funeral. The stories I hold dear in my heart are the funny ones that people would tell me about him being a goober, and the funny person he was!! Tell him to take their favorite fishing hook, and let him put it in the casket. Tell him for me it's okay to smile, laugh and remember what a great guy he was!
When I die, I want you all to come, BBQ a huge pig, and throw down some beers and laugh about what a goober I could/can be!!

Tami, my condolences to you, your family, and especially your son.

By all means, your son needs to go. If he doesn't he'll regret it later. IMO, he needs the closure, and it'll give him a chance for last goodbyes. I really like Laura's idea for him to take his favorite fish hook.

For DS: Don't dwell on the sadness. Kenny would want you to remember the fun times, and the fishing, and the other good things. It hurts now, but the grief will pass.

Let's hope that's not for a while, Laura. We've still got some laughing yet to do.

Besides, I, for one, am not quite ready to cook a full pig just yet.
