Glimpse of northern light tonight

Not often we are able to see the northern lights this far south. Both because of the position and all the light pollution.

Got a glimpse of it today. My neighbor managed to get a couple of pictures. The light moves on the sky and can be a stunning show, especially up north.

Here are a couple of pictures of what we saw and a couple of pictures of what it may look like up north. Actually it's an attraction that attracts a lot of tourists up north during the winter. When it's dark 24/7.

It can be very spectacular. It's scientific name is Aurora borealis. The phenomenon is caused by disturbances in the magnetosphere from solar winds. The resulting ionization and excitation of atmospheric constituents emit light of varying color and complexity.
