That is very cool. You probably have ancestors from the old Hanseatic league where Lubeck was the capital. A lot of scandinavians emigrated to America in the 1850 -1900. I have been a lot in lubeck and Hamburg. Lubeck is a nice city with a lot of history.CaptJack wrote:Great Pics
Joe, i am sort of your 'Viking' connection on this message board
my last name is Krohn
my 2ndGrGranddad, Peter Krohn came to Galveston in 1853
he was a Danish sea captain from Schleswig-Holstein
our farm was on the road between Hamburg & Lubeck
he spent 20 years in the Danish merchant marine then immigrated to Galveston
he married a German girl from Mecklenburg, who he met when he got to Galveston
on my mother's side my family are the Rogers &the Burlesons who came to the colonies in the mid 18th century
Virginia- N.Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee- and finally Texas in 1831
they fought in and were a part of the Republic of Texas.
the Rogers, being Scots-Irish are also of Viking descent
my wife works for the oil&gas magazine- Upstream that is owned by NHST - Aftenposten
she works in the Houston office. the Norway folks love that her last name is Krohn
I have som ancestors that emigrated to America, but up north around Seattle, Washington where you find many Scandinavian descendants. Some other states to where there a lot of sons of Norway lodges.
I know there is a small city close to Santa Monica, CA that is called Solvang. That was founded by a Dane, and with buildings typical for Denmark.
For your scottish-irish side it's not uncommon with viking blood. The Vikings went all over the world with their ships. But a lot to Scotland, Ireland and England.
My wife has Danish ancestors on her mother's side. Not uncommon here due to the union between Norway and Denmark from 1660 until 1814.
Didn't know aftenposten was involved with the press in the US but when you say oil it makes sense. Aftenposten is owned by a big company called Schibsted group. Big publishing company that owns several newspapers.
Thanks for sharing this.
