James, you were right.
This weekend I added a frame on my pit to mount a cutting board/shelf on my pit. I was constsntly looking for a place to lay down my tools and beer!!
Bought hard mable and red oak this morning and droped off at my dads. He is going to glue up and plane me a nice cutting board. Will hopefully have it ready for the comp this weekend.

Sounds like yer gonna end up with nice work shelf! Looking forward to the pics fer sure. Is the wood cutting board going to be easily removable? Would sure hate to see something special like that get all weather beaten ya know.

Yes it will be removable. It will live in the garage when not in use.
